Disaster Services

Disaster Action Team

Members of this team are on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to respond to local disasters such as single family or apartment fires. Our team will be on the scene within one hour of being alerted to assist victims with basic disaster related needs such as shelter, food and clothing. Our Disaster Action team also provides canteen service to local emergency workers such as police, fire and paramedic units when responses last more than a few hours.

During the Northridge Earthquake our team responded immediately and set-up a shelter at Santa Monica College for the over 300 victims who lost their homes. This shelter remained open for almost a month assisting earthquake victims as they put their lives back together.

Disaster Mental Health Team

This team consists of highly qualified mental health professionals who assist disaster victims with mental health issues. Our team also has recently begun providing debriefings for the Santa Monica Police Department. These debriefings are conducted for police personnel to discuss the affects of high stress incidents. The debriefings are set up within a week of each incident and have been attended by as many as 20 officers.

Disaster Education

Our Emergency Services Director is a highly sought after speaker whose presentations on disaster preparedness will inform, educate and entertain. These free presentations contain valuable information given in a lively, interactive format and can vary in length and subject matter to fit the particular needs of each audience. We urge you to take advantage of this free service and schedule a talk for your business or community organization today.

Disaster Kits

One thing we know for certain about earthquakes is that they are impossible to predict. With this in mind doesn't it make sense to be prepared for the next one before it occurs? Our Chapter can assist you in your preparedness goals with our nationally approved emergency kits. These kits are designed to help you survive for three days and contain essential items such as food, water, flashlight, radio, (with batteries) and first-aid supplies. (Complete kit supply list on store page). Our kits come in three convenient sizes:

  • 1 person, 3 day emergency fanny pack
  • 2 person, 3 day emergency back pack
  • 4 person, 3 day emergency tote bag

So be prepared and don't be scared with American Red Cross of Santa Monica emergency preparedness kits.
