Volunteer Opportunities

Disaster Relief Team

Disaster services volunteers support both local and national disaster operations in a variety of positions. Some team members participate as DAT members who are on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to respond to local disasters like apartment fires. Our team will be on the scene within one hour of being alerted to assist victims with basic disaster related needs such as shelter, food and clothing. Our Disaster Action team also provides canteen service to local emergency workers such as police, fire and paramedic units when responses last more than a few hours.

During the Southland Fires our team responded immediately and set-up shelters for over 300 victims who lost their homes. This shelter remained open for several weeks assisting victims as they put their lives back together.

Office Squad

Volunteers provide in-office clerical, Word processing, data entry and phone assistance for two or more hours per week. Receptionists answer phones take donations, handle retail sales of classes and products and perform other clerical duties. Daytime hours between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Weekend opportunities are available on an as needed basis.

Youth Volunteer

The Red Cross provides opportunities for youth to serve the needs of the comminity while gaining important leadership skills. Community projects include outreach for seniors, first aid stations at community events as well as becoming instructors for the many vital Red Cross classes. Youth Services also plays an important role within the chapter providing talented volunteers to the different departments. Our youth volunteers have historically served in disaster response when appropriate as well as being a part of our annual high-profile gala, the Spirit Awards.
