Youth Run to Benefit Red Cross Haitian Earthquake Relief

Youth Run to Benefit Red Cross Haitian Earthquake Relief

Film and television actor Josh Duhamel is teaming up with the American Red Cross of Santa Monica to host a "Youth Run for Haitian Earthquake Relief" fundraiser. The youth run will be on the Santa Monica Beach, Saturday morning, January 23, rain or shine.

Children of all ages are invited to join in the run. Runners will assemble in beach parking lot #1 where Ocean Park Boulevard meets the beach (2600 Bernard Way) beginning at 9 a.m. There they will register for the run and be asked to contribute $10 as a donation which will entirely go to American Red Cross earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

The run will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Participants will run on the beach, north to the Santa Monica Pier where they will turn around and head back to the starting point at the 2600 Bernard Way beach lot.Duhamel says, "There will be no prizes, no winner or losers -- just the sheer joy of running and knowing that you're also helping vital Red Cross earthquake relief efforts in Haiti."

Participants are asked to wear something red to show support for the Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Information about Red Cross Haitian relief efforts can also be found on the chapter web site and on Josh Duhamel's website www.kidsrunnin4haiti.com/. Young children entering the run are asked to bring a parent or guardian along.

Josh Duhamel, 37, has a long history of supporting the American Red Cross and has taken the Santa Monica chapter under his wing. His most recent screen appearances are in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (2009) and "Transformers" (2007). His latest film "When in Rome" is due for release January 28. Other films starring Josh, including "The Romantics", "What's He Got?", "Life as We Know It" and "Ramona and Beezus", are all scheduled for theatrical release in 2010. Duhamel also appeared on 106 episodes of the TV show. "Las Vegas" (2003 - 2008).

Duhamel is married to singer, fashion designer and actress Stacy Ferguson, also known as "Fergie." He is a fitness fanatic and an avid golfer. Although Fergi will be unable to attend the beach run, Duhamel promises that some celebrity friends will join the fundraising effort.

Duhamel will be appearing on the KTLA (5) Morning Show, Friday Morning (Jan. 22) and on the Jay Leno Show on KNBC on Friday evening ( 10- to 11 p.m.) to promote the event. Ryan Seacrest will also be reporting on the run on his nationally syndicated weekday radio show heard locally on 102.7 KIIS-FM  and on LIVE 105.5.

All monies collected for the run will go to the American Red Cross effort for Haitian earthquake relief. Checks and money orders should be made out to American Red Cross of Santa Monica - Haiti Relief. Cash will also be accepted. For complete information, go to the Santa Monica chapter website: www.redcrossofsantamonica.org. and click on "Youth Beach Run for Haiti." The American Red Cross has pledged to assist people and communities impacted by the earthquake in Haiti, and is prepared to take further action as local responders assess the situation. There is widespread damage in Port au Prince and continuing aftershocks. The American Red Cross is deploying disaster management specialists, medical and other relief supplies to Haiti. Estimates are more than a million people may be homeless and the death toll could easily be in the tens of thousands. Injuries are too numerous to estimate. Support for the relief effort from the public is urgently needed.
