Red Cross youth volunteers from Southern California Red Cross chapters
participated in the American Red Cross Youth Service day at the American Red
Cross of Santa Monica (Calif.), working on community projects and attending
leadership workshops.
Under the director of second year Americorps Member, Cory
Russell, Ninety youth between the ages of 14 and 18 put on a puppet show about
earthquake preparedness and presented a Safe Kids Program at Santa Monica
College. The group recruited for blood drives, worked at Fisher House at the
West Los Angeles Veteran's Administration and canvassed door-to-door in Santa
Monica neighborhoods handing out information about fire safety and disaster
preparedness.
The event was held under the auspices of the Southern California Youth
Consortium (comprised of Red Cross youth department employees) and the chapter's
