Regional Service Day Engages Dozens of Youth Volunteers

Regional Service Day Engages Dozens of Youth Volunteers

Red Cross youth volunteers from Southern California Red Cross chapters participated in the American Red Cross Youth Service day at the American Red Cross of Santa Monica (Calif.), working on community projects and attending leadership workshops.

Under the director of second year Americorps Member, Cory Russell, Ninety youth between the ages of 14 and 18 put on a puppet show about earthquake preparedness and presented a Safe Kids Program at Santa Monica College. The group recruited for blood drives, worked at Fisher House at the West Los Angeles Veteran's Administration and canvassed door-to-door in Santa Monica neighborhoods handing out information about fire safety and disaster preparedness.

The event was held under the auspices of the Southern California Youth Consortium (comprised of Red Cross youth department employees) and the chapter's AmeriCorps volunteer. For additional information contact Bill Bauer, director of communications, at (310) 394-3773; bilbau@aol.com
